MSIA, alongside our Board members, met with YB Minister of MITI, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, on 27 March. The engagement provided a valuable platform for an open and constructive exchange on key priorities shaping the future of Malaysia’s semiconductor industry.

The discussion focused on strengthening Malaysia’s competitiveness amid evolving global dynamics, while ensuring that growth remains sustainable and inclusive across the ecosystem.

Key highlights from the session:

- MSIA highlighted pressing industry challenges and the urgent need to enhance ease of doing business, particularly in areas such as LMW/FIZ frameworks, GMT implementation, customs processes, and NIF.

- A clear direction from YBM: talent development must take priority to ensure Malaysia has a strong pipeline of skilled workforce before further industry expansion.

- Strong alignment between MITI and MSIA on deepening SME participation, with emphasis on opportunities in mature nodes and accelerating commercialisation efforts.

The session reflects continued collaboration between the public and private sectors in positioning Malaysia as a resilient and competitive semiconductor hub.
